Brits spend five hours a week watching video online

People in the UK spent over 5 hours a week watching TV, films and video content online through smartphones, tablets and other internet-connected devices in the first half of 2014.

TV was the most popular at 2 hrs and 35 mins on average a week followed by films at 1 hr and 50 mins and video clips at 51 mins.

This increase in online viewing has pushed the amount spent on internet advertising in the UK to a record £3.46bn in the first half of 2014, up 16.6% year on year. Within that total mobile advertising has surged 68% to £707m and now accounts for 20% of all online ad spend.
